Detailed Itinerary for a 7-Day Expedition

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Upon arrival in Moshi, a town located at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, you will be greeted by the Sunset Africa Safari team. They will transfer you to your hotel for a briefing on the upcoming expedition and a final gear check.

Day 2: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast, you will drive to the Lemosho Gate where the trek begins. The trail winds through lush rainforest, offering glimpses of wildlife and exotic flora. You will arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp in the afternoon, where you will spend the night.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
The path ascends through the forest to the heath zone, where you will have stunning views of Mount Meru and the Shira Plateau. You will reach Shira 1 Camp, situated at an elevation of 11,500 feet, where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut
Today’s trek takes you through the high alpine desert, where the landscape changes dramatically. You will pass the Lava Tower, a volcanic formation, before descending to Moir Hut for the night.

Day 5: Moir Hut to Barranco Camp
The trail leads you through the rugged terrain of the Great Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding section of the trek. You will descend into the Barranco Valley, where you will camp for the night.

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
After breakfast, you will ascend the Barranco Wall and continue towards Barafu Camp, located at an altitude of 15,331 feet. Here, you will rest and prepare for the final push to the summit.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
In the early hours of the morning, you will begin the ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. After reaching the summit, you will descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
The final day of the expedition involves a descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you will receive a certificate of achievement. The Sunset Africa Safari team will transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi for a celebratory dinner.
