Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport (or pick-up from your hotel in Kigali), you will be warmly welcomed by your professional driver-guide. After a short briefing about your safari, you will begin a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park in the northern province of Rwanda (approximately 2.5 hours).

Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of rolling hills, terraced farmland, and vibrant local communities that define Rwanda’s beautiful countryside. Upon arrival near the park, check in at your lodge and relax for the evening while preparing for the next day’s gorilla trekking adventure.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking Experience

After an early breakfast, transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing by park rangers. You will be assigned a gorilla family group and guided on trekking procedures and conservation guidelines.

Accompanied by experienced trackers and armed rangers, you will hike through dense rainforest terrain in search of the mountain gorillas. The trekking duration varies depending on the location of the gorilla family, ranging from 1 to 6 hours.

Once located, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing the gorillas in their natural habitat. Witness their social interactions, feeding behavior, playful juveniles, and the commanding presence of the silverback. This close encounter is both humbling and profoundly moving.

After the trek, return to the lodge for relaxation and reflection on this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking – Return to Kigali

Following breakfast, return to the park headquarters for your golden monkey trekking briefing. The golden monkeys, known for their vibrant golden-orange fur and energetic nature, inhabit the bamboo forests at the base of the Virunga volcanoes.

The trek is generally lighter compared to gorilla trekking and offers a lively and engaging wildlife experience. Observe these rare primates as they leap between bamboo trees, forage, and interact within their groups.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch (depending on schedule) before transferring back to Kigali. You will be dropped off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport for your onward flight.
