7 Days Mount Kilimanjaro climbing on Shira Route

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your guides for a full trek briefing, equipment check, and orientation for the climb ahead.

Day 2: Londorossi Gate (2,100 m) – Shira 1 Camp (3,500 m)

Drive to Londorossi Gate, register with park authorities, and begin trekking through lush rainforest that gradually transitions to open moorland. Enjoy views of Kilimanjaro’s western slopes and volcanic formations.

Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Overnight: Shira 1 Camp

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m)

Ascend through heather and moorland vegetation, with panoramic views across the Shira Plateau. This moderate day allows your body to adjust to higher altitude while taking in the stunning scenery.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp – Barranco Camp (3,960 m)

Descend slightly from Shira Plateau, then trek east toward Barranco Camp, crossing rugged volcanic terrain. Enjoy dramatic views of Mawenzi Peak and surrounding alpine landscapes.

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Valley – Barafu Hut (4,600 m)

Climb the famous Barranco Wall in the morning, then continue through Karanga Valley to reach Barafu Hut, your base for the summit push. Rest, hydrate, and prepare for the early morning ascent.

Day 6: Barafu Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Hut (3,100 m)

Start your summit climb around midnight, trekking through scree and alpine desert. Reach Gilman’s Point, then traverse the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Mweka Hut through moorland and rainforest.

Day 7: Mweka Hut – Mweka Gate – Moshi

Descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, collect your summit certificate, and transfer back to Moshi or onward destination.
