Heading 2: A Detailed Guide to Conquering Mount Kilimanjaro’s Lemosho Route in 8 Days: A Journey of a Lifetime
Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Moshi, where you will meet your experienced guide and fellow trekkers. You will have a briefing about the trek and have some time to relax and prepare for the adventure ahead. Overnight stay in Moshi.
Day 2: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast, we will drive to the Lemosho Gate, located at an elevation of 2,385 meters (7,825 feet). Here, we will complete the necessary registration formalities before beginning our trek through the lush rainforest. The trail gradually ascends, offering glimpses of Kilimanjaro’s beauty. After approximately 4-5 hours of trekking, we will reach the Mti Mkubwa Camp at an elevation of 2,750 meters (9,022 feet). Overnight camping.
Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Leaving the rainforest behind, we enter the heath and moorland zone. The landscape transforms as we ascend, with stunning views of the Shira Plateau and the volcanic formations. After approximately 6-7 hours of trekking, we will arrive at the Shira 1 Camp situated at an elevation of 3,505 meters (11,499 feet). Overnight camping.
Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut
Today’s trek takes us through a rugged terrain, passing the Lava Tower at 4,630 meters (15,190 feet). As we gain altitude, the air becomes thinner, and the challenge intensifies. After approximately 5-7 hours of trekking, we will reach the Moir Hut at an elevation of 4,200 meters (13,780 feet). Overnight camping.
Day 5: Moir Hut to Barranco Camp
We continue our ascent through the alpine desert, with stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Today’s trek includes crossing the challenging Barranco Wall, a thrilling scramble that rewards us with incredible panoramas. After approximately 6-8 hours of trekking, we will reach the Barranco Camp at an elevation of 3,950 meters (12,960 feet). Overnight camping.
Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Today’s trek takes us along the picturesque Karanga Valley, with its unique flora and fauna. We gradually gain elevation, preparing our bodies for the final push towards the summit. After approximately 4-5 hours of trekking, we will arrive at the Karanga Camp at an elevation of 4,035 meters (13,204 feet). Overnight camping.
Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
As we approach the summit, the landscape becomes more barren and rugged. Today’s trek takes us to the Barafu Camp, situated at an elevation of 4,640 meters (15,223 feet). We rest and prepare for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. Overnight camping.
Day 8: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
We start our ascent in the early hours of the morning, under the starlit sky. The trek to Uhuru Peak, at an elevation of 5,895 meters (19,341 feet), is a challenging but awe-inspiring experience. As the sun rises, we reach the summit, where breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment await us. After spending some time at the peak, we descend to the Mweka Camp at an elevation of 3,100 meters (10,170 feet). Overnight camping.
Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Our final day on the mountain takes us through the lush rainforest, descending towards the Mweka Gate. After approximately 3-4 hours of trekking, we will reach the gate, where we celebrate our successful summit and bid farewell to our dedicated mountain crew. We then transfer back to Moshi for a well-deserved rest and celebration. Overnight stay in Moshi.
