10 Days Mount Kilimanjaro climbing on Northern Circuit Route

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your head guide for a detailed climb briefing, equipment inspection, and medical check. Relax and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Overnight: Hotel in Moshi

Day 2: Londorossi Gate (2,100 m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650 m)

After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration, then continue to the trailhead. Begin trekking through lush rainforest rich in birdlife and wildlife.

Hiking time: 3–4 hours
Overnight: Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Camp (3,610 m)

Ascend gradually from the forest into the heath and moorland zone. Enjoy expansive views across the Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro’s most dramatic landscapes.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m)

A gentle trekking day across the Shira Plateau, providing excellent acclimatization and stunning views of Mount Meru and Kibo Peak.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp – Acclimatization Day

Spend the day acclimatizing on the Shira Plateau with short hikes and plenty of rest. This crucial day significantly improves summit success and allows your body to adjust naturally to the altitude.

Overnight: Shira 2 Camp

Day 6: Shira 2 Camp – Moir Hut (4,200 m)

Leave the busy southern routes behind and head north toward the remote Moir Hut. Optional acclimatization hikes are available in the surrounding alpine terrain.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 7: Moir Hut – Buffalo Camp (4,020 m)

Traverse the vast northern slopes of Kilimanjaro with sweeping views toward Kenya. This rarely visited side of the mountain offers solitude and stunning scenery.

Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight: Buffalo Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 8: Buffalo Camp – School Hut (4,800 m)

Continue trekking eastward, gradually gaining altitude toward School Hut, your base camp for the summit attempt. Rest, hydrate, and prepare for summit night.

Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Overnight: School Hut
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 9: School Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Camp (3,100 m)

Begin the summit ascent shortly after midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, via Gilman’s Point. After celebration and photos, descend to Mweka Camp for overnight rest.

Day 10: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, receive your summit certificate, and transfer back to Moshi for celebration and relaxation.
