8 Days Mount Kilimanjaro climbing on Northern Circuit Route

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your guide for a detailed climb briefing, equipment check, and safety orientation. Enjoy a restful evening in preparation for the climb.

Overnight: Hotel in Moshi
Meals: Dinner (depending on arrival time)

Day 2: Londorossi Gate (2,100 m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650 m)

After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. Continue by vehicle to the trailhead and begin trekking through lush rainforest. This area is rich in wildlife and birdlife.

Hiking time: 3–4 hours
Overnight: Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Camp (3,610 m)

Ascend out of the forest into the heath and moorland zone. Enjoy wide-open views across the Shira Plateau, one of the oldest volcanic features on Kilimanjaro.

Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight: Shira 1 Camp

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m)

A gentle trekking day across the Shira Plateau, allowing excellent acclimatization while enjoying spectacular views of Mount Meru and Kibo Peak.

Hiking time: 3–4 hours
Overnight: Shira 2 Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp – Moir Hut (4,200 m)

Leave the busier southern routes and head north toward Moir Hut, entering a remote and less-traveled section of the mountain. Optional acclimatization hikes available.

Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight: Moir Hut
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6: Moir Hut – Buffalo Camp (4,020 m)

Trek across the northern slopes of Kilimanjaro with sweeping views toward Kenya. This unique perspective is rarely seen by most climbers.

Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight: Buffalo Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 7: Buffalo Camp – School Hut (4,800 m)

Continue eastward around the mountain, gradually ascending to School Hut, your base for the summit attempt. Rest, hydrate, and prepare for the final climb.

Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Overnight: School Hut
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 8: School Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Camp (3,100 m)

Begin the summit ascent around midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, via Gilman’s Point. After celebrating your achievement, descend through the crater rim to Mweka Camp.

Day 9: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, receive your summit certificate, and transfer back to Moshi.
