Organized by Sunset Africa Safari, this journey guarantees an unforgettable adventure in the heart of Tanzania.

Exploring the Majestic Beauty of Africa’s Highest Peak in a 7-Day Adventure

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by our experienced guide who will transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. Take this day to relax, acclimatize to the altitude, and prepare for the upcoming adventure. In the evening, our team will hold a briefing to provide you with essential information about the climb.

Day 2: Rongai Gate (1,950m/6,398ft) to Simba Camp (2,650m/8,694ft)
After a hearty breakfast, we drive to the Rongai Gate to complete the necessary registration formalities. The trek begins through a lush rainforest, allowing you to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the region. The trail gradually ascends, providing glimpses of wildlife and bird species along the way. After approximately 4-5 hours of trekking, we reach the Simba Camp, where we spend the night.

Day 3: Simba Camp (2,650m/8,694ft) to Kikelewa Camp (3,600m/11,811ft)
Today’s journey takes us deeper into the wilderness as we ascend through moorland, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The changing vegetation and rugged terrain make for an exciting trek. After approximately 6-7 hours of hiking, we arrive at the Kikelewa Camp, where we rest and rejuvenate for the next day.

Day 4: Kikelewa Camp (3,600m/11,811ft) to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m/14,206ft)
Leaving the Kikelewa Camp, the trail continues to climb towards Mawenzi Tarn Camp. The trek presents stunning vistas of the Kibo Peak and the Mawenzi Peak, creating a surreal atmosphere. As we gain elevation, the air becomes thinner, and it is crucial to take it slow to acclimatize properly. After approximately 4-5 hours, we reach the Mawenzi Tarn Camp, where we spend the night.

Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m/14,206ft) to Kibo Hut (4,700m/15,420ft)
Today’s trek is relatively short but demanding as we ascend further towards the Kibo Hut, located at the base of the Kibo Peak. The landscape transitions into an alpine desert, with rocky terrain and sparse vegetation. The climb takes approximately 4-5 hours, and upon reaching the Kibo Hut, we rest and prepare for the summit attempt.

Day 6: Kibo Hut (4,700m/15,420ft) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft) to Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,205ft)
This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the expedition. We start the summit attempt in the early hours of the morning, braving cold temperatures and a steep ascent. As the sun rises, we reach Gilman’s Point (5,681m/18,638ft), offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding glaciers. From here, we continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating our achievement, we descend to the Horombo Hut, where we spend the night.

Day 7: Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,205ft) to Marangu Gate (1,860m/6,102ft)
On the final day, we descend through the lush rainforest, reminiscing about the incredible journey we have undertaken. The descent takes approximately 5-6 hours, and upon reaching the Marangu Gate, we bid farewell to the mountain and receive our well-deserved certificates of achievement. Our team will transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi, where you can rest and celebrate your successful climb.
