Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Nyungwe Forest

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport (or pick-up from your hotel in Kigali), you will be welcomed by your professional driver-guide. After a short safari briefing, depart for Nyungwe Forest National Park in southwestern Rwanda (approximately 5–6 hours’ drive).

Enjoy a scenic journey through Rwanda’s rolling hills, tea plantations, and rural landscapes. You may have an optional stop at the King’s Palace Museum or the Ethnographic Museum in Huye, depending on your schedule.

Upon arrival near Nyungwe Forest, check in at your lodge and relax as you prepare for the next day’s chimpanzee trekking adventure.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking Experience

Early in the morning, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing by experienced park rangers. After receiving trekking guidelines, enter the forest in search of habituated chimpanzee groups.

Nyungwe Forest is one of the best locations in East Africa to observe wild chimpanzees. The trek can range from 2 to 5 hours depending on the chimps’ movements. As you hike through the dense rainforest, you may also encounter other primates such as colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys.

Once the chimpanzees are located, spend a memorable hour observing their behavior — watching them feed, groom, play, and communicate through distinctive calls echoing across the forest canopy. The fast-moving and energetic nature of chimpanzees makes this a dynamic and exciting wildlife experience.

Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

In the afternoon, you may opt for a guided canopy walk experience, suspended above the forest floor, offering spectacular views of the rainforest and its wildlife.

Day 3: Guided Nature Walk – Return to Kigali

After breakfast, enjoy a guided nature walk within Nyungwe Forest. Explore scenic trails leading to waterfalls, viewpoints, and diverse ecological zones. Your guide will share insights into the forest’s rich biodiversity, medicinal plants, and birdlife, making this both an educational and refreshing experience.

Following the nature walk and lunch (depending on schedule), begin your return journey to Kigali. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel or Kigali International Airport for your onward flight.
