6 Days Mount Kilimanjaro climbing on Shira Route

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your guide for a detailed briefing and gear check, preparing for the trek ahead.

Day 2: Londorossi Gate (2,100 m) – Shira 1 Camp (3,500 m)

Drive to Londorossi Gate, complete registration, and start trekking through lush rainforest that gradually gives way to open moorland. Enjoy panoramic views of the western slopes and volcanic outcrops.

Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Overnight: Shira 1 Camp

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m)

Ascend slowly through heather and moorland vegetation, enjoying the stunning highland scenery. This moderate day aids in altitude acclimatization and prepares you for higher elevations.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp – Barranco Camp (3,960 m)

Descend slightly from Shira Plateau, then trek east toward Barranco Camp, crossing dramatic volcanic landscapes. Enjoy views of Kibo Peak and the Southern Icefields as you continue to adapt to altitude.

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Valley – Barafu Hut (4,600 m)

Climb the Barranco Wall in the morning, then continue to Karanga Valley and ascend to Barafu Hut, the base camp for your summit attempt. Rest in the afternoon and prepare for the early morning ascent.

Day 6: Barafu Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Hut (3,100 m)

Begin your summit climb around midnight, trekking through scree and alpine desert to Gilman’s Point, then across the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement before descending to Mweka Hut, passing through moorland and rainforest.

Day 7: Mweka Hut – Mweka Gate – Moshi

Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, receive your summit certificate, and transfer back to Moshi or onward destination.
