8 Days Mount Kilimanjaro climbing on Umbwe Route

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your head guide for a full briefing, medical check, and equipment inspection. Enjoy the evening at leisure as you prepare for the climb.

Overnight: Hotel in Moshi
Meals: Dinner (depending on arrival time)

Day 2: Umbwe Gate (1,640 m) – Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850 m)

After breakfast, drive to Umbwe Gate for registration. Begin the trek through dense rainforest along a steep and narrow trail. The forest is rich in birdlife and black-and-white colobus monkeys.

Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight: Umbwe Cave Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Umbwe Cave Camp – Barranco Camp (3,960 m)

Ascend along the dramatic Umbwe Ridge, emerging above the forest into heath and moorland. Enjoy panoramic views before descending slightly into the scenic Barranco Valley, surrounded by towering cliffs and glaciers.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day – Barranco Camp

This important acclimatization day allows your body to adapt to altitude. Enjoy short acclimatization hikes and rest while taking in spectacular views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding glaciers.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (4,035 m)

Climb the famous Barranco Wall, an exhilarating scramble offering breathtaking views. Continue trekking through alpine terrain toward Karanga Camp, gaining altitude gradually.

Overnight: Karanga Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,600 m)

After breakfast, continue to Barafu Camp, your summit base. Spend the afternoon resting, hydrating, and preparing for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 7: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Millennium Camp (3,950 m)

Begin the summit push shortly after midnight. Trek to Stella Point, then continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement before descending to Millennium Camp for rest.

Day 8: Millennium Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for relaxation and celebration.
