7 Days Mount Kilimanjaro climbing on Umbwe Route

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your mountain guide for a full climb briefing, route overview, and equipment inspection. Relax and prepare for the journey ahead.

Meals: Dinner (depending on arrival time)

Day 2: Umbwe Gate (1,640 m) – Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850 m)

After breakfast, drive to Umbwe Gate for registration. Begin trekking through dense rainforest along a steep and narrow trail. The forest is rich in birdlife and primates, offering a true wilderness feel.

Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight: Umbwe Cave Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Umbwe Cave Camp – Barranco Camp (3,960 m)

Continue ascending along the dramatic Umbwe Ridge, leaving the forest zone and entering the heath and moorland landscape. Enjoy breathtaking views before descending slightly into the scenic Barranco Valley.

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (4,035 m)

Climb the famous Barranco Wall, an exciting scramble offering panoramic views. Continue trekking across ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp, allowing valuable time for altitude adaptation.

Overnight: Karanga Camp

Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,600 m)

Ascend gradually to Barafu Camp, your final base before the summit attempt. The afternoon is reserved for rest, hydration, and final summit preparations with your guide.

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Summit Attempt – Millennium Camp (3,950 m)

Begin your summit ascent around midnight, climbing steadily to Stella Point, then continuing along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). After photos and celebration, descend to Millennium Camp for a well-earned rest.

Day 7: Millennium Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for a hot shower, relaxation, and celebration of your achievement.
