Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Your safari begins with pick-up from Kigali International Airport or your hotel in Kigali. Meet your professional driver-guide for a short briefing before departing on a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park in northwestern Rwanda.

The journey (approximately 2.5 hours) offers spectacular views of Rwanda’s rolling hills, terraced farms, and rural communities, giving you a glimpse of why Rwanda is known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills.”

Upon arrival near the park, check in at your lodge and enjoy dinner. The remainder of the day is at leisure as you prepare for the following day’s trekking adventure.

Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking – Return to Kigali

After an early breakfast, transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for registration and a briefing by park rangers. You will receive important information regarding trekking guidelines and safety procedures.

Accompanied by experienced guides and trackers, begin your trek into the bamboo forests at the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes. The golden monkeys are known for their striking golden-orange fur and lively behavior, often seen leaping between bamboo stalks and playfully interacting within their troops.

The trek duration varies depending on the location of the monkeys, but once located, you will spend a designated time observing and photographing them as they feed, groom, and interact in their natural environment.

After the trek, return to the park headquarters and receive your trekking certificate. Enjoy lunch before beginning your transfer back to Kigali. Drop-off will be at your hotel or Kigali International Airport, marking the end of your 2-day golden monkey experience.
