7 Days Mount Kilimanjaro climbing on Rongai Route

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your mountain guide for a detailed trek briefing and final equipment check.

Overnight: Hotel in Moshi
Meals: Dinner (depending on arrival time)

Day 2: Rongai Gate (1,950 m) – Simba Camp (2,625 m)

Drive to Rongai Gate and begin trekking through farmland and pine forest. The trail is quiet and gradual, perfect for easing into the climb.

Hiking time: 3–4 hours
Overnight: Simba Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Simba Camp – Second Cave Camp (3,450 m)

Continue trekking through moorland vegetation with scenic views of the northern plains. The steady climb allows your body to adapt to altitude.

Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight: Second Cave Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4: Second Cave Camp – Kikelewa Camp (3,630 m)

A shorter trekking day with moderate ascent. The extra night at Kikelewa Camp greatly improves acclimatization and overall summit success.

Overnight: Kikelewa Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5: Kikelewa Camp – Kibo Hut (4,703 m)

Ascend gradually through alpine desert terrain beneath the dramatic spires of Mawenzi Peak. Arrive at Kibo Hut in the afternoon to rest and prepare for the summit push.

Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight: Kibo Hut
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Horombo Hut

Start the summit ascent around midnight. Trek to Gilman’s Point, then continue along the crater rim to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.

After photos and celebration, descend to Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest.

Day 7: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Moshi

Descend through rainforest to Marangu Gate, receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate, and transfer back to Moshi or onward travel.
