9 Days Mount Kilimanjaro climbing on Northern Circuit Route

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your guide for a detailed climb briefing, medical check, and equipment inspection. Enjoy a relaxing evening before the adventure begins.

Overnight: Hotel in Moshi
Meals: Dinner (depending on arrival time)

Day 2: Londorossi Gate (2,100 m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650 m)

After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. Continue to the trailhead and begin your trek through lush rainforest, rich in birdlife and wildlife.

Hiking time: 3–4 hours
Overnight: Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Camp (3,610 m)

Ascend from the forest into the heath and moorland zone. Enjoy expansive views across the Shira Plateau, with Mount Meru visible on clear days.

Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight: Shira 1 Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m)

A gentle trekking day across the plateau, allowing excellent acclimatization while taking in stunning views of Kibo Peak.

Hiking time: 3–4 hours
Overnight: Shira 2 Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp – Moir Hut (4,200 m)

Leave the busy southern routes behind and head north toward the remote Moir Hut. Optional acclimatization hikes are available in the surrounding area.

Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight: Moir Hut
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6: Moir Hut – Buffalo Camp (4,020 m)

Traverse the northern slopes of Kilimanjaro with sweeping views toward Kenya. This rarely visited side of the mountain offers a true sense of wilderness.

Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight: Buffalo Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 7: Buffalo Camp – Third Cave / School Hut (4,800 m)

Continue eastward toward Third Cave or School Hut (depending on conditions), gaining altitude gradually. Prepare for the summit attempt.

Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Overnight: School Hut
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 8: School Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Camp (3,100 m)

Begin the summit climb around midnight. Ascend via Gilman’s Point to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebration and photos, descend to Mweka Camp.

Day 9: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi

Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate, receive your summit certificate, and transfer back to Moshi for relaxation and celebration.
