Climb Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) via the classic Marangu Route, the only route offering comfortable mountain huts instead of tents. This 6-day Kilimanjaro climbing itinerary includes an important acclimatization day, significantly increasing summit success rates and making the journey safer and more enjoyable.

Led by experienced Sunset Africa Safari mountain guides, this trek takes you through lush rainforest, open moorland, alpine desert, and finally to the snow-capped summit of Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Upon arrival in Moshi, you will be warmly welcomed by the Sunset Africa Safari team and transferred to your hotel. A full briefing and equipment check will be conducted by your mountain guide. Relax and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Moshi – Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut (2,700 m)

After breakfast, transfer to Marangu Gate (1,860 m) for registration and trek briefing. Begin the hike through lush rainforest, rich with birdlife and monkeys.

After 4–5 hours of hiking, arrive at Mandara Hut for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut (3,720 m)

Leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone, where giant heathers and open landscapes dominate. Enjoy impressive views of Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak.

Arrive at Horombo Hut in the afternoon for rest, dinner, and overnight.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

This day is dedicated to acclimatization, which greatly improves your chances of reaching the summit. You may take a short hike to Zebra Rocks or explore the surrounding area before returning to the hut.

Relax, hydrate well, and enjoy the stunning scenery.

Day 5: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut (4,703 m)

After breakfast, continue trekking across the alpine desert zone, a dry and rugged landscape between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The air becomes thinner, and the pace slows.

Arrive at Kibo Hut in the afternoon, rest, have an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 6: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Horombo Hut

Around midnight, begin the summit ascent via steep volcanic slopes to Gilman’s Point, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement and enjoy the sunrise before descending.

Return to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Moshi

After breakfast, descend through the rainforest to Marangu Gate. Upon arrival, receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate before transferring back to Moshi, marking the end of your unforgettable adventure.
