This six-day climbing expedition will take you through breathtaking landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and challenging terrains. Led by experienced guides from Sunset Africa Safari, this itinerary promises an unforgettable experience that combines physical endurance, natural beauty, and the thrill of reaching the summit.

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Upon your arrival in Moshi, Tanzania, you will be warmly welcomed by the Sunset Africa Safari team. Spend the night at a comfortable hotel in Moshi, soaking in the anticipation of the journey ahead.

Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
The adventure begins as you depart from your hotel and drive to the Marangu Gate, located at an elevation of 1,860 meters (6,102 feet). After completing the necessary registration formalities, you will commence the trek through the lush rainforest. The initial day’s hike covers a distance of approximately 8 kilometers (5 miles) and takes approximately 4-5 hours. Your first overnight stay will be at the Mandara Hut, situated at an elevation of 2,700 meters (8,858 feet).

Covering a distance of approximately 12 kilometers (7.5 miles), this day’s trek will take around 5-6 hours. Your accommodation for the night will be at the Horombo Hut, located at an elevation of 3,720 meters (12,205 feet).

To ensure your body acclimatizes to the increasing altitude, this day will be dedicated to rest and acclimatization at Horombo Hut. You may choose to explore the surrounding area, hike to Zebra Rocks, or simply relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. This day of acclimatization will significantly enhance your chances of reaching the summit successfully.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
As you leave Horombo Hut, you will gradually ascend towards the alpine desert zone. The landscape becomes more barren, providing a stark contrast to the lush forests encountered earlier. Trekking for approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), this day’s journey will take around 6-7 hours. Kibo Hut, situated at an elevation of 4,703 meters (15,430 feet), will be your base for the final ascent to the summit.

The most challenging and rewarding day awaits as you embark on the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting in the early hours of the morning, you will navigate through the steep slopes of the volcanic crater, enduring physically demanding conditions. After approximately 6-8 hours of strenuous trekking, you will reach the iconic Uhuru Peak, standing tall at an impressive elevation of 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). Celebrate your achievement before descending to the Horombo Hut, where you will spend the night.
